Level 3 Award in First Aid Response (QCF)
This HABC qualification is ideal for those wishing to gain a more comprehensive understanding of first aid, along within an understanding of how important medical/environmental intelligence is when dealing with a range of casualties.
The approximate course duration is 4 days; however this may be adjusted in accordance to meeting learner needs. Topics covered include: the roles and responsibilities of First Aiders; assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, correct use of an AED, medical provision awareness and environmental impacting factors.
The qualification is assessed via practical demonstration and portfolio of evidence.
All successful students will be issued with a Level 3 Award in First Aid Response certificate.
The qualification has a maximum tutor/assessor to learner ratio of 1:12. The qualification is made up of 32 guided learning hours, which can be delivered in a variety of ways to meet learner/employer requirements as suggested below:
- 4 day block (e.g. Monday-Thursday)
- 2 blocks of 2 days (e.g. Saturday -Sunday and Saturday-Sunday)
- 4 blocks of 1 day (e.g. days linked to employer capacity to release learners for training)
- 32 hours across a period of days (e.g. 2 hours per day)
Note: it is a requirement that courses should not exceed the maximum of 10 weeks. The course includes on-going practical and theoretical learning and assessment and may include some off-course study.
This component of the assessment will involve learners demonstrating knowledge, understanding and practical first-aid skills throughout the duration of the course. This meets the qualification criteria contained within units 1 and 3.
The distance study element involves learners carrying out research into the area of medical intelligence and environmental awareness supporting first aid provision. This meets the qualification criteria contained within unit 2.
Learners wishing to achieve the qualification must successfully achieve both of the above components to the required standard.
Learners are required to be over 16 years of age prior to registration for the qualification.
This qualification is approved for delivery to the age range 16+.
There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification.
